Sometimes it's the simplest things that taste the best. Here is the recipe for this simple recipe that is also known for many different names but I declare the proper name to be "Egg in the Hole".
These concoctions could also be called:
➤Egg-in-a-Basket
➤Chicken-in-a-Basket (pun intended)
➤Frog-in-a-Hole (so not appropriate!)
➤Egg Basket
➤Bird's Nest Egg
➤Toad Hole
➤Egg Hole
➤Pop Eyes
➤Egg Toast
➤Private Eyes
It doesn't matter what you call it. Just make it! Then eat it! And you too shall know that it is simple and tastes great!
Ingredients:
Sliced bread of your choosing (white, wheat, rye, pumpernickel or homemade)
Butter, softened
Large eggs
salt
black pepper
Begin with a simple piece of sandwich bread. Anything will do! Butter both sides of bread. With a biscuit cutter or drinking glass, cut a hole in the center of the bread.
Heat a skillet over medium-low-heat, then place the bread in the skillet and allow the bread to start browning. After 1 minute, crack a large egg into the hole. Sprinkle with salt & pepper and cook for another minute or so.
With a spatula, flip to the other side. Sprinkle with salt & pepper and cook on the second side until the egg is desired doneness. I love the outer edges of the yolk to be barely set, with the center runny. But that's just me (and all four of my kids, but NOT JEFF :) ).
