Hello again, I'm finally back! I have quite the story to tell but first of all, I wanted to tell you that the 8th grade banquet went really well. We made a few memories to go along with it but it did go very well. First of all, we got there in plenty of time to get all the food ready. We had it all planned out to get the potatoes brushed with oil and sprinkled with kosher salt (don't salt them too much - one thing we learned) and in the oven so they could bake for 1 1/2 hours. Check. Then we got the green beans in the roaster and started to warm them. Check. Then we needed to start the coffee. First of all, how much coffee does one make for a crowd of 50 on a cooler spring evening? We decided on 60 cups of water. OK, now how much coffee grounds for 60 cups of coffee? Well, we figured we would need 1 1/2 cups plus a little dab more. Sound good? We will see once it gets done perkulating. Check. Now on to some other things in the kitchen like putting desserts of plates, getting the salads ready, etc. About 5 p.m. (the guests would be arriving at 6 p.m.) I decided to check on the beans, they were warming up nicely. Now to check the coffee. When I poured some into a cup it looked like ice tea only it was hot. I asked Becky (the other gal on the committee) what she thought and she just laughed. We only had an hour so what do we do? Well, we decided to turn the coffee pot off, add an additional 1 1/2 cups of coffee grounds to the pot and turn it back on again to start the perkulating process all over again. Well, the light on the coffee pot didn't turn on when we tried to do that and that's when we discovered that we had blown a fuse. I guess a roaster full of green beans and a large coffee pot shouldn't be plugged into the same outlet. Not at the Christian school anyway. So we scurried around to find more outlets to plug these appliances into so that the beans and coffee would be done by the time our guests arrived. Now, what about this coffee? We decided that the breaker blew a fuse before the coffee was done perkulating the first time that is why we had ice tea colored water. Oh great! Now we are going to have really really strong coffee since we had added 1 1/2 more cups of coffee grounds. If it was too strong we weren't going to serve it but we did have a few comments that the coffee was really good. We think they were just saying that. :) After those few moments everything else smoothly.
